Weekend Box Office: April 6th – April 8th

It was The Hunger Games that claimed the top spot at the box office over the week for the 3rd straight week. The film raked in $33.5 million to add to its already impressive total. It crossed the $300 million mark in just 17 days, making it the 6th fastest movie ever to do so. American Reunion and the re-release of Titanic 3D did not give The Hunger Games much of a sweat.

American Reunion brought in $21.5 million which was good enough for 2nd place. However, it was the worse opening in the films franchise since the 1st one. Box Office Mojo pointed out that American Reunion was “even noticeably off from the original American Pie in estimated attendance.” Ultimately, Universal Pictures did not receive the opening they were hoping for with the 4th installment in the franchise.

James Cameron’s re-release of Titantic in 3D debuted in 3rd place. The film brought in just north of $17 million. The numbers were lower than what many analysts had predicted. The $25 million (over 5 days) has brought its lifetime domestic total to $626 million.
